King Open
Location / Cambridge, Massachusetts
Client / William Rawn Associates, in association with Arrowstreet
The complex is comprised of the King Open School, the Cambridge Street Upper School, a public library, the Public School Department headquarters, a pool complex, and community center playgrounds.
Copley Wolff’s scope of work includes a large courtyard that allows the landscape to visually flow through the building. The rest of the site design reinforces this concept while also improving the pedestrian corridor along Cambridge Street; preserving a monumental sycamore tree; providing distinctive, individual entry plazas for the schools; replacing a memorial bocce court; recreating a beloved library reading garden; and developing four new public-access playgrounds.
The project is both NET ZERO- and LEED-certified.
