Rita Hester Community Green

Location / Allston, Massachusetts
Client / Stantec + New England Development

Copley Wolff assisted in the design of the pedestrian environment and public spaces within this new mixed-use development that will consist of retail, residential, office, and lab space.

Through an intense community process, a cohesive program of thoughtfully designed, bike-friendly streets and public spaces was developed to engage visitors and reflect the unique character of the Allston neighborhood.

Copley Wolff’s scope for the Allston Yards development includes the streetscape, rooftop amenity spaces, a Community Green with a dog park, and connections to the MBTA Commuter Rail train station. The streetscape includes a wide permeable paver furnishing strip with stone seats and raised planters, a sidewalk-level cycle track, information pylons for community announcements, areas for bike sharing programs, outdoor retail and dining spaces, trees and plantings, and connections to the retail components of the new development and adjacent neighborhood.

The Community Green, situated at the threshold of Boston Landing and Allston Yards, is open to residents as well as the Allston and Brighton communities. The public Green supports art, food, and music venues, brings people together, and acts as a transition to the MBTA station.
