LANDSCAPE DESIGNER I

My educational background…
Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies and Italian Studies from Wellesley College and a Masters in Landscape Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

I'm from
Wisconsin

I’m drawn to design because…
I was fortunate to grow up in a place where landscapes were both plentiful and accessible.  I really feel that all of these landscapes, from protected natural areas, to agricultural working landscapes, to intentionally designed spaces, have enriched my life in so many ways. One of the reasons why I am drawn to landscape architecture is I want to play a part in shaping the way that others experience space and help connect others with the landscapes around them.

My favorite aspect of working with clients is…
I especially love learning what others outside of the field of landscape architecture find important and get excited about in landscapes. I really enjoy working collectively to find creative ways that a landscape can respond to the immediate needs and challenges within a site.

My favorite food is…
anything Italian!

My favorite book is…
I loved the Anne of Green Gables books growing up- they are still my comfort books.

My favorite park is…
Too hard to choose! But Longfellow Park in Cambridge, specifically the parcel shaped like a triangle between Mount Auburn St and the Charles River is a park I love. It’s a very simple little park but one that is a hidden gem and perhaps underappreciated.

My earliest design memory is…
with my sisters in our childhood sandbox. We used to create new landscapes by piling sand to make hills and mountains and filling depressions with water to make lakes and rivers. Once the landscapes were complete, we would then find frogs in our yard to occupy them. Often they would immediately hop away but sometimes they were convinced enough to stay for a minute or two.
