McGlynn School Playground
Location / Medford, Massachusetts
Client / Medford
The Town of Medford hired Copley Wolff to design a new Universal Playground to accommodate its growing population with diverse abilities.
Copley Wolff created a schoolyard that was fun and safe while offering a range of challenges for children ages 2-12.
The new site layout features an inclusive perimeter loop that serves as a creative organizing element between program areas — a synthetic turf playing field, accessible playgrounds, a stage and covered shelter, musical and nature play areas, basketball half courts, as well as a hard surface play area with a gaga ball pit.
An outdoor classroom allows interactive education on rain gardens, raised beds in a variety of seating options under the shade of an expanded tree canopy.
Resiliency measures include creating bioretention basins to capture stormwater, installing over 65 new trees, and a 100% native plant palette.
