Copley Wolff developed a design that separates pedestrian and vehicular/service access. A new major east/west tree-lined pedestrian walkway connects the library, new plaza at the Peace and Dove sculpture, and Gampel Pavilion. This walkway consists of permeable pavers and structural soil to promote tree health within the sidewalk. Other green design elements include porous asphalt pavement within the parking area and rain gardens.
Canopy trees and shrubs offer seasonal interest throughout the year, frame views, and provide scale and screening within the open space. An outdoor terrace was added near the School of Business café and a plaza was developed around the Peace and Dove sculpture in the center of the quad.
