Copley Wolff Design Group was selected as part of the design team for the redevelopment of New England’s first public housing complex. As landscape architect on the 27-acre site, Copley Wolff produced a site design that integrates with the surrounding neighborhood, providing accessible, walkable streets, and welcoming community spaces. The site is designed to put residents first, establish a porous neighborhood grid, integrate parking, improve multi-modal access, and reinforce resiliency.
The project proposes the creation of a vibrant mixed-income community with 1,016 middle income apartments. Through a public feedback process, Copley Wolff is using the community’s input to inform a dynamic design that includes public gathering spaces, gardens, courtyards, roof decks, playgrounds, and parks.
The design builds upon the existing street patterns of the neighborhood to connect to major and secondary streets, with open spaces woven in to provide pedestrian and bicycle connections to nearby Moakley Park and public transportation.
After collaborating on the master plan, Copley Wolff is now currently working on the site design for the first four buildings to be completed as part of the redevelopment.
